What is SEI?

SEI is the first Layer-1 blockchain network fully optimized and adapted for decentralized trading, DEXs, and DeFi.

Decentralized exchanges (DEXs) are blockchain-based exchanges where transactions occur directly between users, eliminating the need for intermediaries.

DEXes provide greater security and privacy, as users have complete control over their funds, and transactions are recorded on a public blockchain. Generally, they use an automated market maker (AMM) system to determine token prices based on supply and demand, allowing for continuous trading and liquidity.

SEI is the native cryptocurrency on the SEI network used to pay for transaction fees on the network.

What is SEI staking?

Staking is a great way for long-term crypto investors (HODLers) to earn passive income on their cryptocurrency assets while taking part in making the network more secure at the same time.

By staking your SEI you will receive an interest-bearing token in exchange, which accrues staking rewards automatically and can be traded and used for DeFi applications.

A quick example: Suppose a blockchain network offers a 5.5% reward for a staking period of, say, twenty days. You decide to lock up and stake 100 tokens on the network. After a month, you’re able to access your staked tokens and you receive 5.5 additional tokens as your reward – minus eventual fees charged by the staking provider.

Staking Proof-of-Stake (PoS) cryptocurrencies such as SEI does not require stakers to transfer their tokens to validators. It is a non-custodial process.
