Evmos is one of the latest additions to the Cosmos ecosystem. The proof-of-stake blockchain is among the first Cosmos-based chains that give access to the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), thus making it possible to use all the Ethereum-based applications and the Cosmos ones. The connection allows developers to deploy their applications in a low-cost gas environment while expanding their target market to the well-developed Ethereum ecosystem.
Evmos enabled their stakeholders to stake their EVMOS on both Cosmos, with the Keplr Wallet as Ethereum with MetaMask via their Rekt platform. In this article, we’ll go through both staking possibilities. But before we dive in, please keep in mind that you’ll need to obtain some EVMOS and always keep a small amount in your wallet for staking and other transaction fees.
Staking with Keplr Wallet and Rekt
For those familiar with the Cosmos ecosystem, the Keplr Wallet staking function will be the fastest and easiest way to stake your EVMOS. Please see the first steps on setting up your wallet if you haven’t already. Please start at " Start Staking " if you already have a Keplr Wallet.
Install the wallet extension
If you haven’t downloaded the wallet yet, go to https://wallet.keplr.app/; a pop-up will appear as soon as you enter the website. Click on the pop-up; it will lead you to the Chrome extension store. Select: “add to Chrome”.
Once you’ve added the extension, click on it on your screen’s top-right menu to open the Keplr web page.
Create Your Wallet
On the Keplr web page, select “Create New Account” to start setting up your account. There is also an option to Sign in with Google, powered by Torus. If you already have a Keplr wallet, select “Import Existing Account”.
If you’ve selected “Create New Account”, Keplr will ask if you’d like to have a Mnemonic Seed of 12 or 24 words. Remember to store your seed phrase securely offline and never share it with anyone. If you lose your seed phrase, you will lose the assets within the wallet.
Once you’ve copied your seed phrase, fill out your account name, and desired password and confirm by selecting “Next”.
You will then be asked to fill out your seed phrase in the correct order to register. Click on the words to create the sentence, then select “Register”. That’s it! You’ve now created your Keplr wallet. Select “Done” to close the registration webpage, and your wallet should now be opened in the extension. Go to: https://wallet.keplr.app/#/dashboard to continue.
Start Staking
Visit https://app.evmos.org/; if you haven’t visited the website before, you’ll need to accept the terms and conditions to continue. Next, select “Connect Wallet”.
Select “Keplr Wallet”. A pop-up will appear asking you to connect your Keplr Wallet. Select “Approve” to continue. Next, select “Approve” once again on the 2nd pop-up asking for a connection to Osmosis-1.
Afterward, your dashboard should look similar to the one below.
Next, select “Staking” in the side menu to open the staking dashboard. After that, select “View Validators” to see all the validators available for Evmos.
In the list, scroll down or use the “search balk” to find the validator of your choice. On the right side of the validator’s name, select “Manage” to continue.
Once you’ve selected the validator, select “Delegate” once again. You will be asked to add the number of Evmos you’d like to stake and select “Delegate”.
You’ll need to approve the transaction by going over the details in the pop-up and selecting “Approve”. Wait a few seconds, and your transaction will be completed. You’ve now staked your Evmos using Keplr Wallet and the Rekt Platform.
Staking with Keplr Wallet
It’s also possible to stake your EVMOS directly using the Keplr Wallet. To do so, open the dashboard, and copy your account address to send Evmos to your Keplr wallet from any exchange or another Evmos wallet.
On the dashboard’s left drop-down menu, select Evmos and then “Stake”, this will take you to the validator overview. You can also use the extension and press “Stake” on the pop-up’s bottom right (it will take you to the same page).
The Keplr wallet currently doesn’t have a manual search balk, so you must scroll down to select your choice’s validator. Once you’ve found the validator of your choice, click on “manage” on the right (see image below).
When you press “manage,” a pop-up will appear on which you can redelegate, undelegate and delegate to the selected validator.
Select “Delegate”, then fill out the amount of Evmos that you’d like to delegate (keep in mind that you’ll have to pay some fees, so leave some Evmos in your account for that). Select “Delegate” once again to continue.
The Keplr extension will open itself up, and on it, you can decide to pay a low, average, or high fee. It’s also possible to add a memo. Once selected, click on “set fee”. Next, double-check all the transaction details and choose “Approve” when ready.
If you’d like to see how your assets are doing, how much you staked etc., select “Dashboard” in the left drop-down menu on the web browser.
Staking With MetaMask
To get started, go to: https://app.evmos.org/mission-control and select “Connect Wallet”.
Your MetaMask wallet will open a pop-up asking you to sign on, making the connection with the Evmos chain and Cosmos. Select “Next” to continue. MetaMask will request permission to view your wallet address, account balances, and activity and initiate transactions. After reviewing, click "Next."
Go to the “Staking” dashboard by selecting “Staking” on the left side menu.
In the staking dashboard, search for the validator of your choice by scrolling down or searching with the search balk (see image above).
Select “Manage” on the right side of the validator's name to continue. Next, select “Delegate”. Fill out the number of Evmos that you’d like to stake and select “Delegate” again. Kindly note that your funds will be locked for 14 days, so you won’t be able to access the Evmos.
Once you’ve selected “Delegate”, you’ll see a prompt by MetaMask asking you to sign the transaction. Read through the details and select “Sign” to approve the transaction.
Wait a couple of minutes, after which you will see the dashboard “staking” status has changed. You can track your transactions via: https://www.mintscan.io/evmos/.
And that’s it, folks! You’ve now staked your Evmos.
DISCLAIMER: This is not financial advice. Staking, delegation, and cryptocurrencies involve a high degree of risk, and there is always the possibility of loss, including the failure of all staked digital assets. Additionally, delegators are at risk of slashing in case of security or liveness faults on some protocols. We advise you to do your due diligence before choosing a validator.
